In October, it was my Nan's 80th birthday. My family had planned a suprise treat for her: lunch out at her favourite restaurant with all the family. Prior to arriving and seeing all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren there she was under the illusion that my mum, dad and I were just taking her out for lunch for her birthday, she had absolutely no idea that anybody else would be there.
When we got to the restaurant she was so shocked, on the other hand, my granddad's initial reaction was, "who are these lot?". She took her place at head of the table with her big "80" balloons and got on the wine straight away, which is very typical of her despite her age.
After dinner, my cousins, my second cousins and I went to the beach across the road. My second cousins are all 11 years old and under, so they had a lot of fun throwing pebbles into the sea and running around in the wind.
By the time the entire meal was over, my nan was so drunk she had cried when all of her grandchildren hugged her, couldn't stand properly and was repeatedly swearing at my granddad. When she got home, she (literally) ran onto the sofa and fell asleep, still mumbling the odd curse at my granddad - safe to conclude she had a good birthday.
